Have you ever had a Junior Mint before? With the semi-sweet chocolate and the minty center that oozes out when you bite into that delicious morsel! Sometimes, it is hard just to stop eating them because they are so delicious. But, Junior Mints contain soya lecithin which is an emulsifier. This ingredient is a product of soybean processing. Soy lecithin is a material that helps stimulate sturdiness in butter and to keep a shape to dressings and other creamy foods. Also, this product is used in chocolates and coatings so that it does not spatter as much when searing. Studies done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated that this emulsifier is safe to eat by people who by products containing this ingredient. But, did you know that soy lecithin can be used for many other purposes? This includes pharmaceutical and cosmetic purposes. Furthermore, it can be used in many industrial purposes like paints, textiles, lubricants, and waxes. Isn't that disgusting?!.........Even though soya lecithin does not exactly sound healthy after all of that information, it does have many health benefits. This product has three types of phospholipids that include phosphotidycholine, phosphatidylethanolamin, and phosphotidylinositol. These chemicals contain choline, which is a compound. Choline is necessary to every single cell in your entire body and it is one of the dominant element in the cell membrane and soya lecithin is a excellent source of choline. Even though Junior Mints have some pretty disgusting ingredients, they are still chocolatey and creamy goodness with an extra amount of choline to keep your cells happy!
